From the recording WE’RE NOT SUCKERS, WE’RE THE BACKBONE
This song comes from a very personal place for us. We wore the uniform, raised our right hands, and promised to defend this country and its Constitution. Years later, we may have put the uniforms away, but we never put that oath away. “WE’RE NOT SUCKERS, WE’RE THE BACKBONE” is our way of standing up for every veteran, every military family, and every American who believes service and sacrifice still mean something. We traded our weapons for guitars and microphones, but we still have something to say. We served this country because we loved it, not because we expected praise, and certainly not to have that service dismissed or disrespected. This song has some anger in it, yeah, but underneath that anger is pride — pride in the men and women who served beside us, pride in the people who never came home, and pride in the country we still believe is worth fighting for. We are the Blue Wave Revival Band. We are veterans. We are musicians. And this is us saying loud and clear: we were never suckers. We are part of the backbone of America.
Lyrics
[WE’RE NOT SUCKERS, WE’RE THE BACKBONE]
[INSTRUMENTAL INTRO – 6 BARS]
[Acoustic guitar, warm Hammond. Solemn. NO VOCALS.]
[SPOKEN – STRONG, CLEAR, FRONT AND CENTER]
[Not soft or rushed. Honor pauses.]
Donald Trump—
[PAUSE]
hear us now.
We wore the uniform.
We raised our right hands.
We served this country—
not a man.
Not a party.
[PAUSE]
The Constitution.
We are the Blue Wave Revival Band.
Fifteen veterans.
And we’ve got something to say.
[INSTRUMENTAL – 4 BARS, NO VOCALS]
[VERSE 1]
You can call us names,
you can question where we stand,
But every one of us once raised
a right and willing hand.
We learned what service meant
before we learned this song,
And loving this old country
means speaking when it’s wrong.
Some wore stripes,
some wore bars,
Different branches, different scars.
But there’s one thing we still know—
The oath was never yours to own.
[PRE-CHORUS]
We didn’t serve a party.
We didn’t serve a throne.
We served the Constitution,
and that oath is still our own.
[CHORUS]
We’re not suckers,
we’re the backbone.
We stood our watch
when we were far from home.
We’re the ones who answered
when our country made the call.
And we’re still standing,
we’re not backing down at all.
Donald Trump,
you don’t get to tell us
what our sacrifice was worth.
We’re the Blue Wave Revival Band,
fifteen veterans—
still standing for this country
we served.
[VERSE 2]
Some of us were officers,
some enlisted in the ranks.
Some came home to families,
some came home without the thanks.
Army, Navy, Air Force,
Marines and Coast Guard too,
Different uniforms we carried,
but the promise carried through.
We know what orders mean.
We know what duty costs.
We remember empty chairs
and every friend we lost.
When you talk about the fallen
like their sacrifice was small,
Understand you’re talking
about brothers to us all.
[PRE-CHORUS]
You can disagree with us.
That’s what freedom lets you do.
But don’t confuse our silence
with surrendering to you.
[CHORUS – STRONGER]
We’re not suckers,
we’re the backbone.
We stood our watch
when we were far from home.
We’re the ones who answered
when our country made the call.
And we’re still standing,
we’re not backing down at all.
Donald Trump,
you don’t get to tell us
what our sacrifice was worth.
We’re the Blue Wave Revival Band,
fifteen veterans—
still standing for this country
we served.
[VERSE 3 – BUILDING, PROUD]
We took off our uniforms,
laid our weapons down.
But the oath we swore back then
is still with us right now.
We picked up our guitars,
our instruments and mics.
Found another way to stand,
another way to fight.
No rifles on our shoulders,
no orders coming down.
Just fifteen veterans making music,
and we’re not backing down.
We’re the Blue Wave Revival Band,
and this is what we do—
We traded weapons for our music,
now we’re singing truth to you.
[BRIDGE – MUSIC PULLS BACK]
We know the sound of boots on concrete.
We know the weight of coming home.
We know freedom isn’t guaranteed
just because it’s carved in stone.
It survives because somebody
stands up when the moment comes.
Sometimes with a rifle.
[PAUSE]
Sometimes with a vote.
[PAUSE]
And sometimes—
with a song.
[INSTRUMENTAL BUILD – 8 BARS]
[VERSE 4 – STRONGER]
So hear us now, Donald Trump,
because we’re speaking plain.
Patriotism isn’t something
you can stamp beside your name.
The flag belongs to all of us.
This country does as well.
And veterans aren’t decorations
for a story you can sell.
We fought beside Republicans.
We fought beside Democrats.
We fought beside independents
who simply had our backs.
Nobody asked inside the foxhole
how the other person voted.
You watched the one beside you,
because everybody mattered.
[BUILD]
That’s America.
Not one man.
Not one party.
Not one name.
A Constitution.
A people.
A promise we intend to keep.
[FINAL CHORUS – FULL BAND HARMONY]
We’re not suckers,
WE’RE THE BACKBONE.
We stood our watch
when we were far from home.
We’re the ones who answered
when our country made the call,
And after all these years,
we’re still answering that call.
Donald Trump—
[PAUSE]
HEAR US NOW.
We won’t surrender
what that oath was all about.
We’re the BLUE WAVE REVIVAL BAND,
fifteen veterans standing strong.
We served America then—
AND WE’RE SERVING HER
WITH THIS SONG.
[ALL VOCALS STOP]
[LONG INSTRUMENTAL OUTRO – 20–30 SECONDS]
[NO VOCALS, HUMMING, CHOIR OR AD-LIBS.]
[Acoustic guitar, Hammond organ, emotional electric guitar.]
[Gradually strip back instruments and fade to silence.]
[END – INSTRUMENTS ONLY]
