From the recording THEY STILL CALL ME SOLDIER

I'VE STILL GOT A SONG TO SING
**Blue Wave Revival | Written by Rick Gaspa**
*From the Album: THEY STILL CALL ME SOLDIER*

I've lived long enough to know that life doesn't always turn out the way you planned. I've had some wonderful years, some pretty rough ones, and a few I'd just as soon forget. I've made mistakes, lost people I loved, and faced battles that didn't end when I took off my Army uniform.

But you know something? I'm still here.

I grew up in Boston, joined the Army at seventeen, served two tours in Vietnam, and spent much of my life behind a microphone playing music for other people. Now, all these years later, I'm finally getting the chance to share some of my own songs.

**β€œI'VE STILL GOT A SONG TO SING”** is about refusing to let age, regrets, or the difficult chapters of life have the final word. It's about waking up each morning knowing there are still stories worth telling, people worth loving, and reasons to keep going.

I'm not the young soldier I once was. My hair has turned gray, my hands have gotten older, and I've learned that time moves a whole lot faster than we'd like. But there's still music in my heart, and as long as I'm here, I intend to keep sharing it.

This song closes our album *They Still Call Me Soldier* because, after everything I've lived through, it says something I truly believe:

**My story isn't finished. And neither is yours.**

To every veteran, every older American, and anyone who's ever wondered whether their best days are behind them, this one's for you.

We're not done yet, my friends. Not by a long shot. πŸ’™

🎧 **Put on your headphones or earbuds, turn up the music, and listen to the words.** This one's personal.

Lyrics

[I'VE STILL GOT A SONG TO SING]
[BLUE WAVE REVIVAL]

[Instrumental Intro – 15 seconds]
[Warm fingerpicked acoustic guitar begins alone. Gentle piano joins, followed by a soft, steady bass. Hopeful, intimate Americana atmosphere.]

[Verse 1 – Warm, mature older male voice, conversational]

There's a cup of coffee cooling,
And a guitar beside my chair.
Morning light across Las Vegas,
Finds me sitting quietly there.
I spent a lot of years believing,
I'd already had my turn.
Then an unfinished melody,
Gave me one more thing to learn.

[Pre-Chorus – Gentle emotional lift]

I may not move as fast these days,
And time has changed a thing or two.
But every time I hear that music,
I find something I still want to do.

[Chorus – Warm, uplifting, memorable melody]

I've still got a song to sing,
A little hope to pass along.
My voice may sound a little older,
But the feeling's just as strong.
I can't rewrite yesterday,
Can't undo the things I've seen.
But if one heart feels less alone tonight,
I've still got a song to sing.

[Instrumental Interlude – 12 seconds]
[Acoustic guitar melody, warm piano, gentle bass. Light rhythmic pulse builds.]

[Verse 2 – Personal storytelling]

I once played records in the darkness,
For young men far from home.
I'd speak into that microphone,
So they'd know they weren't alone.
Now the years have changed the station,
But the reason's still the same.
If a song can reach one soldier,
I don't need a bigger stage.

[Pre-Chorus – Gentle build]

I've seen the world keep changing,
Watched the years go rolling by.
But there's something about a simple song,
That still brings tears to my eyes.

[Chorus – Fuller arrangement, vocal remains prominent]

I've still got a song to sing,
A little hope to pass along.
My voice may sound a little older,
But the feeling's just as strong.
I can't rewrite yesterday,
Can't undo the things I've seen.
But if one heart feels less alone tonight,
I've still got a song to sing.

[Instrumental Break – 18 seconds]
[Warm melodic electric guitar, gentle piano, and acoustic rhythm. Emotional but uplifting. No cymbal crashes.]

[Verse 3 – Tender, meaningful delivery]

Somewhere there's a veteran,
Who can't sleep through the night.
And another who keeps smiling,
Just to say that he's alright.
I can't take away their memories,
I won't pretend I can.
But maybe one familiar voice,
Could help them face the day again.

[Bridge – Intimate, emotional, instruments pull back]

No, I don't need a spotlight,
Don't need my name in lights.
Just let a tired old soldier,
Feel a little less alone tonight.
The world can keep on turning,
And I'll keep doing what I can.
If my voice can reach one person,
I'll be grateful where I stand.

[Final Chorus – Strongest emotional moment, warm and uplifting]

I've still got a song to sing,
A little hope to pass along.
My voice may sound a little older,
But the feeling's just as strong.
I can't rewrite yesterday,
Can't undo the things I've seen.
But if one heart feels less alone tonight,
I've still got a song to sing.

[Outro – Soft, heartfelt singing]

And when the room grows quiet,
And the final notes begin to fade,
I'll think about the road behind me,
And the music still to be made.

There's a little more road before me,
And a little more love to bring.
As long as there's someone out there listening,
I've still got a song to sing.

[Extended Instrumental Outro – 25 seconds]
[Beautiful uplifting acoustic guitar melody, expressive piano, warm sustained cello, and soft bass. Instruments slowly fade. No cymbal crashes, no crowd sounds, no spoken words.]
