I read something recently that stayed with me. For some Vietnam veterans like me, opposing Trump is something Republicans see as disloyal or anti-American â
Â
Many of us vets spent years carrying around ideas about service, sacrifice, duty, and what it means to put country above any one leader or political movement. Their view isnât necessarily âagainstâ a person as much as itâs tied to their own understanding of patriotism and what they fought for.
Â
At the same time, plenty of other Vietnam vets see things differently and support Trump for reasons they connect to loyalty, strength, and love of party over country.
Â
Thatâs part of what struck me. People with similar experiences can come away with very different political conclusions â and still believe theyâre acting out of the same core values.
Â
You donât have to agree with any side to find that worth thinking about.
